SIP RADIO

Hi, Haters. Back on our female guest bulls*** like Bussa Bus!

We had to be on our toes for this one! SIP RADIO welcomed a free-thinking, creative, ambitious, and self-proclaimed Black Feminist—better known as Rhaisa Williams. In addition to her Black Feminism, Rhaisa is a senior at Penn, the editor of Little Black Book, an ASE Academy volunteer, a dramatic actress (am I allowed to say actress?), a photographer, a freelance writer, and last but not least, a former girlfriend of our very own DJ R To Da Izza.

After failing in Corporate America and realizing that he ain’t go’n make it, Yaw was back in the studio, jamming on the keys. Topics included Rhaisa’s experiences as a mentor, “tweeking,” the future of the young generation, “Cutie Of The Month,” nice guys finishing last, Rhaisa’s schematics as a photographer, accusations of Stephen schemin’ with his photography, Rhaisa gaming dudes, Rhaisa’s plans for interracial dating, Rhaisa’s quest for a man with whom she can go half on baby, and much more…

SIP RADIO

Hi, Haters. We’re back off hiatus. We feel just like you; I mean, even we hate us!

This is “THE LOST EPISODE” of SIP RADIO a.k.a. “THE HOMIES OVER HOES EPISODE.” We did this show back in September ‘09. There were no female guests and Yaw was AWOL, so we got back to basics—just S, I, and P chopping it up like old times.

Topics included Paul’s our Summer ‘09 escapades, the phenomenon of Twitter, Facebook recklessness, dealing with Stephen’s our ex-girlfriends, cuffing your current girlfriend, and much more. Also, we introduce the newest member of the SIP RADIO family, DJ R To Da Izza.

“What We Talkin’ About”

August 31st, 2009
Album art is dope...Timbo clearly had no hand in this.

Album art is dope...Timbo clearly had no hand in this.

The internet has been buzzing due to the leak of Jay-Z’s most recent effort, The Blueprint 3. Due to the accessibility of our generation, we, the listening public, has already heard a third of the album. From these first two leaks we got”D.O.A.” and “Run This Town”, both of which have seen generally favorable praise. However, we recently had a three day run of leaks featuring Timbaland-produced tracks “Off That” featuring Drake, “Venus vs. Mars”, and “Reminder” all of which have been deemed hot garbage.

Now I completely agree and cosign the sentiments that these songs are extra wack. However, allow me to put “wack” Jay in perspective. If you really listen to the tracks and not completely dismiss them, despite the new Jay-Z adlib (Awwwwww!),  you’re getting solid Hov. What that means is, you’re getting better a product than most dudes are putting out in the game.

If only because SIP Radio hasnt shown enough love for (my) baby girl Rihanna...

If only because SIP Radio hasn't shown enough love for (my) baby girl Rihanna...

So why do we hate on Jay so hard, despite the fact that his mediocrity still kills most clowns “rapping” right now? Because Shawn Carter is “Michael, Magic and Bird all rolled in one…” Seriously. I’m a huge Kobe stan fan. And as rider supporter understands, you know that when dude doesn’t drop 81 you’re kinda pissed. I mean honestly, Kobe has come out drop 35 (15 in the fourth) and I would be mad because he didn’t kick out to Odom for the open three at the 2:35 mark.

What I’m trying to say, is that Jay-Z has set the bar too high. When I (and most others) hear that a new Jay album is dropping, we expect nothing less that The Blueprint. Anything less is a complete failure. Let’s get real, Nas still hasn’t (and will probably never) shake Illmatic, despite dropping other amazing albums. Once an artist has a classic album, there really isn’t much more they can do. We all know that we have Michael Jordan on the Wizards Hov. But it’s still MJ and that’s why as much as we hate we can’t fathom Jay-z NOT rapping. Regardless of the weak sauce he’s kicking out.

The Rap Up called it...

The Rap Up called it...

With all of that said , the album isn’t a complete waste. Here’s the rundown for the sake of making this a real “review”

Highlights:

Kanye’s No I.D.’s production on “What We Talkin’ About” and “Thank You” and probably all other “Kanye West” produced tracks.

“D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” as the ::says hestitantly:: hardest track on the album.

“Empire State of Mind” ft. Alicia Keys—>(NY State of Mind? “I’m not a biter…”)

Jeezy actually having a verse and not ad libs on “Real As It Gets”

The camel reference on “Already Home”

M.I.A (Missing In Action):

Just Blaze production

Verses (not background vocals) from…Drake and Cudi

Dame Dash references…oh wait…nvm.

“Swagger Like Us Pt. 2″, “Jockin’ Jay-Z”, “Brooklyn Go Hard” etc.

Auto-Tune

Biggie Lines (I just haven’t listened hard enough, I’m sure…)

Either way, much love to Mr. Carter for another (mediocre) album that I will (begrudingly) appreciate. I am patiently waiting for the Blueprint 4…

BREAKING NEWS: Canadian Rapper Named “Aubrey” Is Gay.

August 19th, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen, this just in…a Toronto-based rapper that goes by the name Aubrey, known for his clean cut, well dressed image and his popular role on a Canadian teen soap opera has been purported to be…GAY!

Myspace kissy face does not help...

Myspace "kissy face" does not help...

In actuality, the story of Aubrey aka Drizzy Drake aka Wheelchair Jimmy and his (shakier than his legs…) sexuality surfaced around the second half of July. Barely legal baddie and close friend of  Drake, (and I suppose rapper, or model or socialite or whatever it is she considers her “job”) Teyana Taylor, made her opinion clear that T-Dot’s finest might be after every boy in the world…

Jimmy falling under the weight of his own questionability...and yes its still that funny...

Jimmy falling under the weight of his own questionability...and yes it's still that funny...

The rumors have resurfaced due to some extra suspect pictures that have popped up on the internet recently.

Not Gay

Not Gay

What needs to be understood is that this type of activity is only gay…to black people. As a light skinned dude who used to kick it with many a white kids in private school, it should be understood that this was an absolutely normal occurence. The idea of “no homo” was a joke on the highest of levels considering the presence of gay faculty and students.  People forget…Aubrey isn’t Young Money and Aubrey isn’t Wayne. Wayne kissing Baby was kinda gay (by hood standards, not mine). Weezy got teardrops…he knew damn well kissing another dude was not gangsta! ::In Riley voice::

And the Hood says...No Homo my nig!

And the Hood says...No Homo my Nig!

“Shopping Bag Drizzy” (Pause) was raised in the same type of laid-back affluent background that has kids running around ball tapping each other and actually USING the showers after gym class.

So do I think Aubrey is gay? Probably not . He just seems like a soft dude raised in a different environment than his counterparts and subsequently may not fully understand or even care about his social faux pas in the eye’s of the hood.

Now that I think about it, this is really just a defense of my own particular quirks (Bath and Body Works, Skinny jeans, v-necks, scarves, etc.) which always catch heat…but of course…IDGAF and Hi Haters…I’ll still take your girl.

I swear I like girls...

I swear I like girls...

-Paul
